Time Management: Eba and MELON STEW!!

by | Aug 19, 2013 | Websites | 0 comments

Its been long since I cooked, I left school early this year and rarely cook at home. I just ate Eba (native meal made of cassava roasted grains) and Egusi (Melon stew) mixed with measures of Ewuro (Bitter leaf) and Ugwu (native vegetable notably found amongst the Igbo tribe of Nigeria).

Anyways I should not bore you with details of the process and ingredients used. I cooked it so well, my Dad ate another round and my sister really thinks I should lecture girls like herself on Yoruba culinary methods. I hope she doesn’t read this too soon, cause she really didn’t say so.

While I cooked, I remembered my experience in the school hostel while I was a student at Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU). I had a particular room mate who was also a friend and course mate. He had this penchant for getting things cooked, always ensuring 3 square meals despite the difficult time-table we ran in school.

Some of us just saw it as impossible, to keep cooking 3 times every day but he managed it for 5 years. I have come to the realization that “Habits” and “Beliefs” dictates what is possible or not.

He had the mind that 3-square meal was necessity and therefore he would adjust his sleeping time, reading time and every other activity to make this possible.

Essentially time management is not something that can be taught through books but one major tool that I hope readers would gain, is the ability to make all that should fit into the 24hr clock a necessity. When all our activities for the day have been assessed and tagged necessary for our being or not, we will automatically find ourselves adjusting to do the right thing at the right time.

An healthy and successful life is not only found in magnificient discoveries in outer space but the ability of man to dictate to time what necessity means to him/her.

Ask these questions when you wake up for the day:

Who am I?
What do I want in this day?
Why do I have to do what?
When do I have to stop?

And never procastinate!!

Tell yourselve “It all starts now till this same time tomorrow”.
