As a writer, my major motivation has been a desire to educate and to overcome the flood of negative content. I have been a part of dirty media, your child, brother, sister, husband, friend etc has been exposed to sexually explicit media. I am an advocate of creative healing of the mind, writing is one of the various avenues by which this may be achieved but its a worthwhile effort even if its just going to be a pinch of salt in a cauldron of broth. Friday marks the International Day of the Girl. The United Nations has set aside October 11 to focus on the discrimination and abuse that women and girls suffer throughout the world.

One brutal crime that demands a far more intensive worldwide response is commercial sexual exploitation. This problem is of crisis proportion, and each time it happens it amounts to selling the rape of a child for profit.

This illicit global industry has begun to receive some of the attention its victims desperately require. But a blind spot remains: American girls on American soil.

It is happening here, to our girls. By conservative estimates, 100,000 American children are trafficked each year. Many, though not all, of these victims lived at the margins of American life before they were trafficked. They were struggling against poverty, and often had histories of trauma, abuse, violence or neglect.

The greatest secret that we miss a lot of times is the evil done to the young minds exposed to the volume of perverse media and literature that are resultants of sex trafficking. I term it Sex-Mind Trafficking.

The Stats:

• The U.S. Customs Service estimates that there are more than 100,000 websites offering child pornography (which are “illegal”) worldwide. Red Herring Magazine, 1/18/02

• Hollywood currently releases 11,000 adult movies per year – more than 20 times the mainstream movie production. LA Times Magazine, 2002.

• 39 million homes receive the adult channels in scrambled form, while the number of children with potential exposure to such images is about 29 million Morality Continues to Decay. Barna Research Group, November 3, 2003.

• One in 4 American adults surveyed in 2002 admitted to seeing an x-rated movie in the last year. National Opinion Research Letter

I know right now as you read this article one of the young ones around your neighborhood or even under your roof is hooked to pornography and probably regretting the exposure but with proper education and healthy media and content provision I believe we can salvage the mind of people around us. I Realize without us seeing the need for a clean thought process this article is useless. Imagine that every time you wanted to do something important, you shoved it aside cause you had an undying urge for porn and each time you fail in achieving your goals you get depressed and your only hope and comfort is viewing sexual materials and this becomes a consistent cycle for every living human on the earth, I believe we will be headed for chaos.
